We’re Going North: UNMUTEDCO Opens Toronto Office

When we founded UNMUTEDCO in 2018, we had a clear vision: democratize technology, amplify authentic voices, and build sustainable wealth in Black and Brown communities. Today, we’re taking a bold step forward to ensure that mission not only survives but thrives in the face of unprecedented challenges.

We’re proud to announce the opening of UNMUTEDCO’s Toronto office at 20 Bay Street.

Why Toronto? Why Now?

Let’s be honest about what’s happening. In the United States, we’re watching systematic attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Federal programs designed to create opportunity for marginalized communities are being dismantled. Civil rights protections that our ancestors fought and died for are being rolled back. The message is clear: our progress is under attack.

But here’s what they don’t understand about us—we don’t retreat. We adapt. We strengthen. We build.

Toronto represents more than a new office location. It’s a statement: When systems fail us, we build new systems. When doors close, we construct new buildings.

The Strength of Multiple Foundations

Every successful movement needs multiple strongholds. Our U.S. operations continue at full strength—we’re not abandoning that fight. But by establishing roots in Toronto, we’re ensuring that no single political climate can threaten our ability to serve our community.

Toronto offers what every marginalized community deserves but rarely receives:

A government that actually supports diversity instead of treating it like a political football

A technology ecosystem that values innovation from all backgrounds

A multicultural society where Black excellence isn’t seen as threatening but celebrated

Legal protections for civil rights that aren’t subject to the whims of political cycles

The Greater Toronto Area is home to over 500,000 Black Canadians representing Caribbean, African, and North American heritage. This is our community. This is our opportunity.

What This Means for You

If you’re a creator, the Toronto office means expanded opportunities for content production, distribution partnerships, and access to NoirPlus and NoirTube resources without the constraints we’re facing in the U.S.

If you’re a business owner, you’ll have access to NoirWorx and our complete business solutions, with support specifically tailored to navigating Canadian business requirements and opportunities.

If you’re a technologist, Unmuted Labs’ Toronto presence means more opportunities to work on AI democratization projects that are changing how underrepresented communities access and benefit from emerging technology.

If you’re an activist or organizer, the Toronto office becomes another node in our network supporting community initiatives, including WOKE.FUND’s mission to refund what others defund.

If you’re a student or career changer, Unmuted Academy can help you develop the AI and digital skills that will define the next decade—and we’re committed to making those opportunities accessible regardless of your background.

Building Bridges, Not Walls

This expansion isn’t about choosing between countries. It’s about recognizing that Black liberation is a global movement, and our tools—technology, media, business services—should be accessible wherever our people are building and creating.

The strength of our New York office reinforces our Toronto presence. The strength of our Toronto office reinforces our New York presence. The strength of our Atlanta operations reinforces both. We’re stronger together, across borders, united in mission.

Our Commitment to Greater Toronto

We’re not coming to Toronto as outsiders trying to impose U.S. models on Canadian communities. We’re coming as partners, ready to learn from Toronto’s Black community, collaborate with established organizations, and contribute our technology and resources to collective advancement.

We’re committed to:

  • Hiring locally: Building a diverse team of Torontonians who understand the community we serve
  • Partnering authentically: Working with established Toronto organizations rather than competing with them
  • Contributing economically: Investing in Black-owned businesses and keeping our spending within the community
  • Respecting cultural differences: Recognizing that Black Canadian experiences and needs may differ from Black American experiences
  • Building for the long term: This isn’t a temporary move—we’re establishing permanent roots

A Message to Our U.S. Community

Some of you might wonder if this means we’re giving up on the United States. Absolutely not.

This is us refusing to let attacks on our progress limit our potential. This is us ensuring that regardless of what happens politically in any single country, our community has access to the tools and resources we’ve built. This is us demonstrating that Black excellence isn’t confined by borders or intimidated by backlash.

Our U.S. operations aren’t just continuing—they’re expanding. WOKEFUND was born from the attacks on DEI. Noirworx is helping more Black entrepreneurs than ever. NoirPlus is creating content that centers our stories. We’re fighting harder, not softer.

Toronto gives us a strategic advantage in that fight.

A Message to Our New Toronto Community

Welcome. We’re honored to be here.

We know Toronto’s Black community didn’t need us to arrive to be thriving. You’ve built incredible businesses, created powerful art, developed innovative technology, and established strong community networks. We’re not here to save anyone—we’re here to contribute, collaborate, and learn.

If you’re a creator, let’s talk about how NoirTube and NoirPlus can amplify your voice.

If you’re an entrepreneur, let’s explore how NoirWorx can streamline your operations.

If you’re an organizer, let’s discuss how our resources can support your community work.

If you’re a technologist, let’s collaborate on making AI accessible and beneficial for our community.

If you’re simply curious about what UNMUTEDCO does and whether there’s alignment with your goals, reach out. Coffee is on us (we’ll learn the best Toronto spots quickly, we promise).

The Bigger Picture

Here’s what we really want you to understand: This move is about permanence.

When systems attack our progress, we don’t just resist—we build alternatives that outlast the attacks. When doors close, we construct new buildings with stronger foundations. When borders try to limit us, we expand across them.

UNMUTEDCO’s Toronto office isn’t a reaction to fear. It’s a demonstration of resilience. It’s proof that our commitment to democratizing technology, amplifying authentic voices, and building sustainable wealth in Black and Brown communities can’t be contained, constrained, or cancelled.

They can defund programs. We’ll refund them through WOKEFUND.

They can attack diversity. We’ll expand to countries that embrace it.

They can try to slow our progress. We’ll build faster, stronger, and more sustainably than before.

A Final Thought

In 1967, when Dr. King faced vicious opposition to the civil rights movement, he didn’t retreat—he expanded the fight to economic justice, international solidarity, and systemic change. He understood that true liberation requires multiple fronts, diverse strategies, and unshakeable commitment.

That’s what we’re doing here. Not running from a fight, but expanding our capacity to win it.

Toronto isn’t a retreat. It’s a reinforcement.

Welcome to the next chapter of UNMUTEDCO. We’re building something that can’t be cancelled, defunded, or defeated—because it’s built on the unstoppable truth that our community deserves access to technology, authentic representation in media, and tools to build sustainable wealth.

They thought attacking us would weaken us.

Instead, we went north and got stronger.

A Note for Business Owners and Community Leaders

Our leadership recognizes the harmful actions and policies deliberately targeting our communities. In response, we are committed to strengthening our capacity and expanding partnerships with organizations that prioritize and protect our communities. If you’re interested in collaborating with us, please connect with us.

A note to Indigenous Communities

Our leadership recognizes the harmful actions and policies that have long targeted Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities across North America. As we expand our work—including into Toronto—we also acknowledge that our growth occurs on lands stewarded since time immemorial by Indigenous Nations whose communities continue to confront the impacts of displacement, erasure, and ongoing policy harm.

We do not offer this acknowledgment as a gesture, but as a commitment. We recognize that any work to strengthen civic power, economic opportunity, and community well-being must include Indigenous sovereignty, voices, and liberation efforts. This includes honoring the histories of the territories where we operate, supporting present-day organizing, and deepening collaboration with Indigenous-led organizations whose leadership guides pathways to justice.

In response to the ongoing harm facing our communities, we are investing in greater capacity, stronger partnerships, and more accountable practices that reflect our shared responsibility to the people and lands where we serve. If you’re interested in collaborating with us, please connect with us.
